Sterling Silver, Natural Blue Topaz & Cubic Zirconia
The Arwen Evenstar is the most iconic piece of jewellery in Lord of the Rings history. This edition places genuine natural blue topaz at its centre — the focal point of the star-and-flower design, the stone the eye goes to first — surrounded by six cubic zirconia marquise star points whose brilliant white light radiates outward and amplifies the cool blue of the genuine gemstone at the pendant's heart.
The blue topaz carries the colour of twilight over Rivendell — the shimmer of the Bruinen river, the deep sky above the Last Homely House at dusk. Where the classic Evenstar shines with cold starlight, the Blue Topaz Edition holds something calmer: the stillness of water and sky, the quality of Elvish light at the end of the day.
This is the official full-sized film replica in solid 925 sterling silver — 11.3 grams, 6cm by 2.5cm, all seven stones individually claw-set at the exact proportions of the pendant worn by Liv Tyler as Arwen Undómiel.
The centre stone is a genuine natural pear-cut blue topaz, 9 × 6mm — the largest and most prominent stone in the pendant. Six cubic zirconia marquise stones radiate outward as the star points, framing it in brilliant white light. The blue topaz at the centre is the reason for this edition's existence. Everything else serves it.
Rivendell — Imladris in the Elvish tongue — was built in a deep hidden valley where two rivers met, and its architecture, music, and light were all shaped by water. Elrond chose the site deliberately: the rivers provided both protection and beauty, and the sound of falling water ran through every room and garden of the Last Homely House. It was in this place, suffused with the blue light of mountain rivers and evening sky, that Arwen grew up over nearly three thousand years.
When Aragorn first saw her in the birch trees of Rivendell at dusk, she appeared to him like a vision of Lúthien Tinúviel — luminous, still, and somehow more real than anything around her. The quality of Elven beauty that Tolkien described again and again was precisely this: that Elves seemed lit from within, by a light that had nothing to do with the sun. The blue topaz Evenstar captures that quality — the cool, clear light of the world before the sun rises or after it sets, the light that Rivendell was built to hold.
The Evenstar she gave Aragorn was her pledge: herself, given into his keeping. To wear this blue edition is to carry that same weight of devotion — rendered now in the colour of the water and sky that shaped the woman who made that choice.
Topaz is one of the hardest gemstones in the world, rating Mohs 8 — harder than amethyst, harder than quartz, and among the most durable stones available in fine jewellery. Its exceptional hardness gives it a brilliance and lustre that persists through years of wear without dulling, making it an ideal centre stone for a pendant worn close to the skin every day.
Blue topaz is the November birthstone — prized for its cool, clear colour that ranges from the pale sky blue of a winter morning to the deeper Swiss blue of a mountain lake. The natural variation within the stone gives it a living, shifting quality under different light.
Historically, topaz was believed to soothe the mind, increase strength, and improve relationships — qualities that read almost as a description of Arwen herself: calm under pressure, resolute in her choice, and the anchor of Aragorn's hope throughout his long journey. The Greeks believed topaz could make the wearer invisible in moments of danger — an apt legend for a pendant worn by a Ranger who needed to move unseen through a darkening world.
As a gift stone, blue topaz carries the meaning of loyalty, clarity, and enduring affection — all resonant with the Evenstar's own story of a love that outlasted every obstacle placed against it.
As the November birthstone, blue topaz makes this the natural and meaningful choice for anyone born that month. But it speaks equally to every occasion where the qualities of the stone — clarity, loyalty, enduring strength — are the message you want to send alongside the gift.
As an anniversary gift, the blue topaz rewards years of wearing in a way that reflects the relationship it commemorates — deepening and shifting with the light over time. As a birthday, Valentine's Day, or Christmas gift, it works both as fine jewellery and as a deeply considered piece whose meaning goes further than its appearance.
For those who simply love the blue — the cool, clear colour that is among the most universally admired in gemstones — this is the Evenstar that will stop them the moment they open the box. Every piece arrives in an official Hobbit leather presentation pouch with a Licence of Authenticity — gift-ready, distinctive, and unmistakeably from Middle-earth.
The pendant design places a single dominant centre stone at the heart of the star-and-flower geometry, with six marquise stones radiating outward as the star points. In the Blue Topaz Edition, the hierarchy is deliberate and transparent:
| Position | Stone | Cut & Size | Role in the Design |
|---|---|---|---|
| Centre | Genuine Natural Blue Topaz | Pear — 9 × 6mm | The focal point of the entire pendant. Cool natural blue, Mohs 8 hardness. Claw-set in silver prongs. |
| Star Points (×6) | Cubic Zirconia | Marquise — 10 × 5mm | Six radiating marquise CZ stones form the star points. Their brilliant white light frames and amplifies the blue topaz at the centre. All individually claw-set. |
| Feature | Official Blue Topaz Edition | Cheap Blue Replicas |
|---|---|---|
| Centre Stone | Genuine natural blue topaz — Mohs 8, real gemstone, lasting brilliance | Coloured glass or synthetic crystal — scratches, dulls, no gemological value |
| Setting Method | All 7 stones claw-set — light passes through each stone for maximum brilliance | Glued — blocks light, adhesive fails, stones fall out over time |
| Durability | Blue topaz at Mohs 8 does not scratch or dull through normal daily wear | Coloured glass scratches easily and loses brilliance rapidly with contact |
| Base Material | Solid 925 sterling silver, nickel-free, 11.3 grams | Zinc alloy or silver-plated base metal — tarnishes, peels, discolours skin |
| Licence | Official New Line Productions licensed — Licence of Authenticity included | Unlicensed — no connection to the films or original design |
| Genuine Blue Topaz Centre — Claw-Set, Not GluedThe natural blue topaz is held in silver prongs that allow light to pass through the stone from every angle — the same method used to set diamonds. This maximises the stone's natural brilliance and gives the blue its characteristic shifting, directional quality as the pendant moves. | Mohs 8 Hardness — Daily Wear DurabilityBlue topaz rates 8 on the Mohs scale — one of the hardest gemstones used in fine jewellery. It does not scratch, chip, or dull through normal daily wear. Combined with solid sterling silver, this pendant is built for decades of wearing, not years. |
| Six CZ Marquise Star PointsThe six surrounding cubic zirconia marquise stones radiate outward as the star points, framing the blue topaz in brilliant white light. Their role is to draw the eye inward to the genuine stone at the centre. All six are individually claw-set. | 11.3 Grams of Solid 925 Sterling SilverNickel-free and hypoallergenic. The same substantial weight as the classic Evenstar — felt immediately when you hold it. No hollow casting, no plating. |

Blue topaz at Mohs 8 is highly durable for daily wear — but it has one specific characteristic worth knowing: a perfect cleavage plane, meaning a sharp direct impact at the right angle could crack the stone. Under normal wearing conditions this is not a concern. The sterling silver requires standard care.
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap. Work gently around and behind all claw settings — including behind the topaz centre stone. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a lint-free cloth. This is the safest and most effective method for both the silver and the blue topaz.
Blue topaz has a perfect cleavage — a sharp direct knock at a specific angle could crack the stone. This is unlikely in normal wear but worth protecting against. Remove the pendant before any activity involving hard physical contact, and store it separately so it cannot be struck by other hard objects.
Use a soft silver polishing cloth on the metal areas to manage tarnish. Work gently around the claw settings without applying direct pressure to the prongs. Avoid abrasive polishing pastes, which become trapped in the Art Nouveau detail of the framework.
Remove before swimming, using cleaning products, hand sanitiser, or bleach. Chlorine and harsh chemicals accelerate tarnish in sterling silver and can affect natural gemstone surfaces with repeated exposure over time.
Do not use ultrasonic cleaners on this pendant. Vibration can stress claw settings over time, and given blue topaz's cleavage properties, repeated ultrasonic use is not advisable. The soft toothbrush method is the correct approach.
Store in the Hobbit leather pouch when not worn — separately from other jewellery that could strike the pendant. Put it on after applying perfume, hairspray, and lotions. Remove it first when undressing. These habits, consistently kept, make the difference over years of wear.
