Sterling Silver, Natural Amethyst & Cubic Zirconia
The Arwen Evenstar is the most recognised piece of Lord of the Rings jewellery ever created. This edition places a genuine natural amethyst at its centre — the largest stone in the pendant, the heart of the star-and-flower design — surrounded by six cubic zirconia marquise stones whose sole purpose is to radiate brilliance outward and draw the eye to the violet gemstone at the core.
Where the classic Evenstar shines with cold white starlight, the Amethyst Edition glows with the warmth of royalty, wisdom, and devoted love. This is the Evenstar seen through twilight rather than moonlight — richer, warmer, and more intimate.
This is the official full-sized film replica in solid 925 sterling silver — 11.3 grams, 6cm by 2.5cm, all seven stones individually claw-set at the exact proportions of the pendant worn by Liv Tyler as Arwen Undómiel.
The centre stone is a genuine natural pear-cut amethyst, 9 × 6mm — the focal point of the entire design. Six cubic zirconia marquise stones radiate outward as the star points, framing it in brilliant white light. The amethyst is the soul of this piece. Everything else exists to serve it.
Arwen Undómiel — whose name in Elvish means "noble maiden" — was the last great beauty of the Eldar, daughter of Elrond and great-granddaughter of Galadriel. Her people called her the Evenstar: the last brilliant light before the long night of the Elves' fading from the world. Like the evening star itself, she burned most brilliantly at twilight — the moment between what was and what would come.
The love between Arwen and Aragorn began in the birch woods of Rivendell at dusk. Aragorn saw a figure in grey and silver and thought for a moment he had seen Lúthien Tinúviel — the Elven princess of ancient legend who had also loved a mortal man and chosen death over immortality. He was not wrong. Arwen had that same choice, and she made it with clear eyes.
She gave her Evenstar to Aragorn as the outward sign of that decision: herself, entrusted to him, worn against his heart through every battle on the road to Gondor. The deep violet of amethyst — the colour of royalty, wisdom, and faithful love across three thousand years — is a fitting new light for that story.
Amethyst is one of the oldest and most richly storied stones in human history. Its deep violet — ranging from pale lilac to intense royal purple — has made it the stone of kings, priests, and lovers across every culture that has prized it.
In Greek myth, the goddess Artemis transformed a maiden named Amethystos into pure white quartz to protect her from Dionysus. Moved by grief, Dionysus poured wine over the stone — staining it the purple it carries to this day. From that story comes amethyst's ancient association with protection, clarity of mind, and sobriety of judgement.
St Valentine wore an amethyst ring engraved with the image of Cupid — which is why amethyst became the stone of faithful love across medieval Europe and remains the February birthstone to this day. Bishops wore it as a symbol of spiritual wisdom. Roman soldiers carried it into battle as a talisman.
Placed at the heart of the Evenstar — already loaded with the meaning of sacrifice and devotion — amethyst adds its own ancient voice. This is one of history's great symbols of love and wisdom set at the centre of one of fiction's greatest love stories.
As the February birthstone, amethyst makes this the natural and beautiful choice for anyone born that month. Its deep historical link to St Valentine also makes it a particularly resonant Valentine's Day gift — Tolkien's greatest love story and the stone's own ancient romantic symbolism arriving together in a single piece.
It works equally well as an anniversary gift, engagement present, or milestone birthday gift — for Tolkien admirers and non-fans alike. The pendant is beautiful entirely on its own terms. Every piece arrives in an official Hobbit leather presentation pouch with a Licence of Authenticity — completely gift-ready the moment it arrives.
The pendant design places a single dominant centre stone at the heart of the star-and-flower geometry, with six marquise stones radiating outward as the star points. The hierarchy in the Amethyst Edition is clear and intentional:
| Position | Stone | Cut & Size | Role in the Design |
|---|---|---|---|
| Centre | Genuine Natural Amethyst | Pear — 9 × 6mm | The focal point of the entire pendant. Non-heat-treated natural colour. Claw-set in silver prongs. |
| Star Points (×6) | Cubic Zirconia | Marquise — 10 × 5mm | Six radiating marquise CZ stones form the star points. Their brilliant white light frames and amplifies the violet amethyst at the centre. All individually claw-set. |
The centre amethyst is genuine, natural, and non-heat-treated — its violet hue is exactly as nature produced it, with the subtle colour depth that distinguishes a real gemstone from a synthetic or treated stone.
| Feature | Official Amethyst Edition | Cheap Coloured Replicas |
|---|---|---|
| Centre Stone | Genuine natural non-heat-treated amethyst — real gemstone, natural colour, lasting value | Coloured glass or dyed synthetic — fades, scratches, no gemological value |
| Setting Method | All 7 stones claw-set — light passes through each stone for maximum brilliance | Glued — blocks light, adhesive degrades, stones fall out over time |
| Base Material | Solid 925 sterling silver, nickel-free, 11.3 grams | Zinc alloy or silver-plated base metal — tarnishes, peels, discolours skin |
| Proportions | Full film-accurate 6cm × 2.5cm | Often undersized or incorrectly proportioned |
| Licence | Official New Line Productions licensed — Licence of Authenticity included | Unlicensed — no connection to the films or original design |
| Genuine Amethyst Centre — Claw-Set, Not GluedThe natural amethyst is held in silver prongs that allow light to pass through the stone from every angle — the same method used for diamonds in engagement rings. This maximises the stone's natural violet depth and brings out the subtle colour variation that only untreated amethyst has. | Non-Heat-Treated Natural ColourMost commercial amethyst is heat-treated for artificially uniform colour. This centre stone is not — it retains the natural variation in violet depth that is the hallmark of genuine untreated amethyst. The colour shifts subtly as the light changes around it. |
| Six CZ Marquise Star PointsThe six surrounding cubic zirconia marquise stones exist to serve the amethyst — their brilliant white light radiates outward and draws the eye inward to the genuine stone at the heart of the design. All six are individually claw-set. | 11.3 Grams of Solid 925 Sterling SilverNickel-free and hypoallergenic. The same substantial weight as the classic Evenstar — felt immediately when you hold it. No hollow casting, no plating. |

The natural amethyst centre stone is durable at Mohs 7 but benefits from a little extra care — its colour can be affected by prolonged direct sunlight, and the claw settings benefit from regular gentle cleaning to keep the stone brilliant.
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap. Work gently around and behind all claw settings — including behind the amethyst centre stone where residue collects. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a lint-free cloth. Do not use toothpaste — it is abrasive.
Natural amethyst can fade slowly with prolonged exposure to direct intense sunlight or sustained heat. This is not a concern under normal wearing conditions — but avoid leaving the pendant on a sunny windowsill or in a hot car for extended periods. Store in the Hobbit pouch away from direct light.
Use a soft silver polishing cloth on the metal framework to manage tarnish. Work gently around the claw settings without applying direct pressure to the prongs. Avoid abrasive polishing pastes, which become trapped in the fine Art Nouveau detail.
Remove before swimming, using cleaning products, hand sanitiser, or bleach. Chlorine accelerates tarnish in sterling silver and can affect natural gemstones with repeated exposure over time.
Do not use ultrasonic cleaners on this pendant. Vibration can stress claw settings over time and is not recommended for natural amethyst. The soft toothbrush method is the correct and safest cleaning approach.
Store in the Hobbit leather pouch when not worn to slow tarnish. Put the pendant on after applying perfume, hairspray, and lotions — chemicals build up in the claw settings over time. Remove it first when undressing.
