Legolas Greenleaf, Prince of the Woodland Realm of Mirkwood, is one of the nine members of the Fellowship of the Ring. He is a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm — not one of the Noldor who came from Valinor, but one of the Elves who had lived in Middle-earth since before the Third Age began. His father is Thranduil the Elvenking, whose halls were the prison of Thorin Oakenshield's company in The Hobbit.
His archery in the films became iconic in a specific way: not just as skill, but as elegance applied to violence. He fires three arrows in the time another warrior draws a sword. He slides down staircases on shields while shooting. He brings down an oliphaunt by climbing up it, killing its riders, and jumping off as it falls.
