Sterling Silver Fellowship Legacy Pendant
"What about side by side with a friend?"
"Aye. I could do that."
Most weapons in Middle-earth belong to one story. Glóin's axe belongs to two. Glóin — one of the twelve dwarves who accompanied Thorin Oakenshield on the quest to reclaim Erebor from Smaug — carried this axe through every danger of The Hobbit: the troll's lair, the goblin tunnels, Mirkwood, the barrels of the Forest River, the Battle of Five Armies beneath the Lonely Mountain itself.
That same axe then passed to his son. Gimli, son of Glóin, carried it to Rivendell, accepted it as his weapon for the quest to destroy the One Ring, and wielded it at Moria, Helm's Deep, the Pelennor Fields, and the Black Gate. No other weapon in the official licensed jewellery range has this lineage — the only weapon to appear (in the hands of its owners) in both trilogies. This 60mm pendant is the definitive version of that weapon, the one that tells the full story.
Officially licensed by New Line Productions. Solid 925 sterling silver. Made in New Zealand — the cinematic home of both film trilogies.
Glóin was one of the thirteen dwarves who accompanied Bilbo Baggins on the quest to reclaim Erebor in The Hobbit. He was son of Gróin, and one of the more outspoken and practically-minded members of Thorin's company. He survived the Battle of Five Armies, returned to Erebor when it was restored, and prospered there for decades. He is the only member of Thorin's company who appears (as a named character) in The Lord of the Rings — present at the Council of Elrond in Rivendell, where he came to warn Bilbo of a message from Sauron's servants. His son Gimli travelled with him to Rivendell and was chosen for the Fellowship.
The inheritance of the axe from Glóin to Gimli is one of Tolkien's quiet continuities — a thread of physical object connecting the two stories across decades of in-world time. Glóin carried it to Erebor and back. He carried it to Rivendell sixty years later. When Gimli was chosen for the Fellowship, the axe came with him as a matter of course — the dwarven inheritance of a father's weapon, carrying the tradition of Durin's folk into the greatest crisis of the Third Age.
In Gimli's hands, the axe became iconic in a different register entirely. Glóin used it for survival and reclamation. Gimli used it for something rarer — the defence of people who were not his own people, in a cause that required him to work alongside an Elf, which by every tradition of both races should have been impossible. The friendship between Gimli and Legolas is the most surprising relationship in The Lord of the Rings: a dwarf and an elf, whose peoples had been suspicious of each other for millennia, finding in the shared purpose of the Fellowship a bond that outlasted the War of the Ring and eventually led Gimli to become the first and only Dwarf known to sail to the Undying Lands.
The axe was there for all of it. From the halls of Erebor to the Grey Havens.
Two official axe pendants are available — this 60mm version (Glóin's Axe), and the 48mm Gimli's Axe. The 60mm pendant is the larger, more substantial statement piece — the version that emphasises the weapon's full narrative history across both trilogies, the father-to-son inheritance, the connecting thread between The Hobbit and The Fellowship. The 48mm Gimli's Axe is more compact, designed for daily wearing as a character tribute to Gimli specifically and his Fellowship role in The Lord of the Rings. Both are solid sterling silver; choose based on scale preference and which part of the story matters most to you.
| 60mm — A Statement of Dwarven ScaleAt 60mm (2.36 inches) in length, the Glóin's Axe pendant is the largest axe pendant in the official New Zealand range. FAQ
Who is Glóin in The Hobbit?
Glóin is one of the thirteen dwarves who accompany Thorin Oakenshield and Bilbo Baggins on the quest to reclaim Erebor from Smaug in The Hobbit. He is the son of Gróin and one of the more outspoken members of Thorin's company. Glóin survived the Battle of Five Armies, returned to Erebor when it was restored, and later travelled to Rivendell for the Council of Elrond — making him the only member of Thorin's company to appear as a named character in The Lord of the Rings. His son Gimli was chosen for the Fellowship of the Ring.
What is the connection between Glóin's axe and Gimli?
Glóin's axe passed to his son Gimli — the Dwarf member of the Fellowship of the Ring. Gimli carried the inherited weapon through every battle of the War of the Ring: Moria, Helm's Deep, the Pelennor Fields, and the Black Gate. The axe is the only weapon in the official licensed jewellery range to appear (in its owners' hands) across both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings film trilogies.
What is the difference between Glóin's Axe (60mm) and Gimli's Axe (48mm)?
The 60mm Glóin's Axe is the larger statement pendant emphasising the weapon's full narrative history — the father-to-son inheritance connecting both trilogies. The 48mm Gimli's Axe is more compact, designed for daily wearing as a Fellowship character tribute focused on Gimli's own story. Both are solid sterling silver.
