Sterling Silver Pendant — Gift of Galadriel
Before the Fellowship left Lothlórien, Galadriel gave gifts. To Frodo she gave the Phial of Galadriel. To Aragorn she gave the Elfstone. To the rest of the Fellowship she gave Elvish cloaks, grey as shadow, fitted for the long road ahead — and on each cloak, a single leaf-shaped brooch worked in silver.
The Leaves of Lórien were not merely decorative. In the world of the Elves, objects given with intention carried the intention with them. These leaves were a mark of safe passage through the world of the Elves, a promise of protection, and a visible sign of the bond forged in Lórien between eight very different people who had chosen to walk the same road into the dark.
This is the official sterling silver pendant of that leaf — solid 925 sterling silver, nickel-free, with the intricate vein detailing of the mallorn leaf rendered in precious metal. Handcrafted in New Zealand by the official New Line Productions licence holders. Includes a 45cm sterling silver chain.
The Leaves of Lórien — also called Elven-brooches — were clasps given by Galadriel to the surviving members of the Fellowship at the end of their time in Lothlórien. Each leaf was shaped like a new-opened beech-tree leaf, worked in silver with veins in the metal. They were used to clasp the grey Elvish cloaks that made the Fellowship invisible against the land they walked through. All nine members of the Fellowship wore one. The leaf became the symbol of their shared journey — a physical object connecting nine individuals across the breaking of the Fellowship and the long separation of the War of the Ring.
The Leaves of Lórien appear at three critical moments in The Lord of the Rings beyond the simple act of their giving. In The Two Towers, as Pippin was being carried by Uruk-hai after the breaking of the Fellowship, he deliberately dropped his brooch on the ground as a signal — a trail marker that Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli could follow. It was found on the edge of Fangorn Forest and told Aragorn the hobbits had been alive at that point. A leaf clasp, dropped precisely, kept hope alive at the moment it was most needed.
Later, in Henneth Annûn, Frodo showed his leaf to Faramir as proof of his relationship with Boromir and his time spent in Lothlórien — it was a credential, a passport, evidence that Frodo was who he said he was. And in The Return of the King, the leaves are still present on the cloaks of the Fellowship members as they move through the final stages of the War of the Ring.
Small objects, carried faithfully. That is the Tolkien tradition — the meaning embedded in the material thing, present and waiting to matter at the exact right moment.
The Leaf of Lórien is most commonly available as a brooch — a pin-back clasp exactly as Galadriel gave them. This official version is crafted as a pendant necklace, suspended on a 45cm sterling silver chain, designed to be worn as jewellery for daily wear rather than pinned to clothing.
A pendant allows the leaf's detail to be displayed against the wearer's chest — the silver veining and the organic shape visible at the surface, carrying the meaning of the Fellowship's bond in the way jewellery carries meaning: quietly, close to the body, present in every room you enter.
| Mallorn Leaf Detail in Sterling SilverThe intricate vein structure of the mallorn leaf — the great trees of Lothlórien whose leaves turned gold and silver — is rendered in solid 925 sterling silver. The organic, asymmetric natural form of the leaf is reproduced with precision, capturing the Elvish aesthetic of beauty drawn from the natural world rather than imposed upon it. | Solid 925 Sterling Silver — Nickel FreeCast in solid sterling silver throughout — no plating, no base metal, no hollow casting. Nickel-free and hypoallergenic. The same precious metal standard used throughout fine jewellery. A leaf pendant that will last as long as the story it represents. |
| 45cm Sterling Silver Chain — IncludedA high-quality 45cm (18-inch) sterling silver chain is included as standard — the pendant arrives ready to wear or gift immediately. The 45cm length positions the leaf at the collarbone on most wearers, the ideal display position for a pendant of this character. | Official New Zealand LicenceMade under licence from New Line Productions by the official New Zealand licence holders. This is the official Elven Leaf pendant — not a fan-made interpretation or unlicensed Lórien-themed piece. The connection to the films is direct and documented. |

FAQ
What are the Leaves of Lórien?
The Leaves of Lórien — also called Elven-brooches — were silver leaf-shaped clasps given by Galadriel to the surviving members of the Fellowship of the Ring at the end of their stay in Lothlórien. Each was shaped like a new-opened beech-tree leaf with veins worked in the silver. They were used to clasp the grey Elvish cloaks that made the Fellowship near-invisible against the landscape they travelled through. All nine members of the Fellowship wore one.
Why did Galadriel give leaves to the Fellowship?
The leaves were gifts of protection and farewell — a mark of the bond formed in Lórien and a visible sign of Galadriel's blessing on the journey ahead. In Tolkien's world, objects given with intention carried that intention with them. The leaves also served a practical purpose: the Elvish cloaks they clasped provided camouflage, allowing the Fellowship to move unseen through many dangerous places.
What role did the leaf play in The Two Towers?
In The Two Towers, Pippin deliberately dropped his brooch on the ground while being carried by Uruk-hai as a signal to Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli who were tracking the captured hobbits. The leaf was found on the edge of Fangorn Forest and told Aragorn the hobbits had been alive at that point on the trail — a small object that kept hope alive at the moment it was most needed. Frodo also showed his leaf to Faramir in Henneth Annûn as proof of his connection to Boromir and his time in Lórien.
Is this a brooch or a pendant?
This is a pendant necklace — the Elven leaf suspended on a 45cm sterling silver chain, designed to be worn as jewellery. The Leaf of Lórien is also commonly available as a brooch (a pin-back clasp as Galadriel originally gave them). This pendant version is designed for daily wearing as a necklace.
